Precisely because of with 〜からこそ

Grammar: Reason and Cause » 〜からこそ

〜からこそ adds emphatic focus to the reason as the sole cause of the result, similar to “precisely because ~” in English. It combines から (expressing a reason) and こそ (expressing emphasis).

Usage

This grammar is used to emphasize an important or special reason. It is more commonly used to emphasize positive aspects, rather than negative.

It is common in in persuasive statements, justifications, or compliments. It is often paired with expectations or commitments in the following clause.

This grammar cannot be used for objective judgements or facts, as it expresses the speaker’s opinion, thoughts, or judgment.

Formation

  1. Verb (casual/plain) + からこそ + Clause
    • 失敗(しっぱい)したからこそ、(つよ)くなれる
    • "Precisely because I failed, I can become stronger."
  2. い-adjective (plain) + からこそ + Clause
    • (いそが)しいからこそ、(やす)時間(じかん)大切(たいせつ)にしたい
    • "It is precisely because (I am) busy that I want to value my rest time."
  3. な-adjective + だ + からこそ + Clause
    • 安全(あんぜん)だからこそ、みんな安心(あんしん)して()らせる
    • "It is precisely because (it is) safe that everyone can live in peace."
  4. Noun + だ + からこそ + Clause
    • 親友(しんゆう)だからこそ、(なん)でも(はな)せる
    • "It is precisely because (you are) my best friend that I can talk about anything."
  5. だからこそ + Clause
    • 人生は短い。だからこそ、後悔しないように生きたい
    • "Life is short. That is precisely why I want to live without regrets."
    • Note: Opening a sentence with だからこそ starts the clause with emphasis ("that is precisely why").

During a training session, Tsubaki quickly subdues Asagao. Sazanka uses this opportunity to launch a surprise attack, only for Tsubaki to anticipate it and take her down as well.

ツバキ:
不意(ふい)をつくばかりじゃダメです。」
“You can't just rely on surprise attacks.”
基本(きほん)があるからこそ奇襲(きしゅう)()きるんです。」
“It's precisely from having fundamentals that surprise attacks become effective.”

Tsubaki is teaching that being clever or tricky (using surprise attacks) isn’t enough on its own. True skill comes from mastering the basics first, which then make those surprise moves actually work.
